Track cycling: Netherlands lower own Olympic record in men's team sprint

It's a hot day in France today, and that means less air resistance – conducive to fast times.

That's clearly been seen in the velodrome, with multiple world records in the women's team sprint.

And on the men's side,Netherlands have just broken their own Olympic record from Tokyo 2020, clocking 41.279 to lower the mark by 0.09 seconds.

3X3 Basketball: Finals set

At the La Concorde Urban Park, we now know the finalists for each of the four medal finals we have this evening after the semi-finals.

On the women's side, Spain beat USA 18-16 in overtime, while Germany eked out a 16-15 win over Canada. That sets up a USA vs Canada bronze-medal game and Spain vs Germany gold-medal game.

In the men's event, Netherlands beat Lithuania 20-9 and France beat defending champions Latvia 21-14, meaning the hosts are in the final against the Dutch, while the Baltic neighbours play for bronze.

Matches start in 90 minutes.

Track cycling: Great Britain break women's team sprint world record

Thetrack cycling programme began today at theSt Quentin en Yvelines Velodrome, and we've already had a world record in the first event.

Full caveat: this is an existing event which has had a rules change recently, as the women's team sprint went from teams of two riders to teams of three.

The world record stood at 45.487 by People's Republic of China.Great Britain have broken that and also set the first standing Olympic record, clocking 45.472.

Butcher leads way ahead of everyone else. All through the barrel roll and the first upstream gate.

The Kiwi leads from Clarke. This field is spread out massively.

Finn Butcher is through the last gate easily and he's Olympic champion! He led from start to finish.

Canoe slalom: Noémie Fox (AUS) wins first ever kayak cross gold medal

Thewomen's kayak cross final is up – someone is about to make history as the first champion in this event.

Noémie Fox (AUS) is the top qualifier and gets a decent cheer from the crowd as she's half-French. Kimberley Woods (GBR), Angèle Hug (FRA) – who gets the loudest cheers –, and Elena Lilik (GER) are in this final.

There are eight gates. The barrel roll comes after gate 1; the upstream gates are 2 and 8.

First three across the line cleanly earn medals.

It's a clean start! Woods hits the front and she's opening up a gap! All through the barrel roll fine.

Woods' lead is gone at the first upstream gate and Fox leads. Woods is right behind her. They have clear air behind them.

Lilik and Hug are neck-and-neck for bronze.

Fox clears the second upstream gate and Woods is stuck!

Noémie Fox wins gold for Australia! Hug earns silver! But despite being caught in the last gate, Woods wins bronze as Lilik picks up a fault on the first upstream at gate 2!

The entire Fox family have jumped in to celebrate with Noémie.

Badminton: Viktor Axelsen retains men's singles Olympic title

After that narrow bronze-medal match, the final between Viktor Axelsen and Kunlavut Vitidsarn is a lot more comparatively one-sided.

Axelsen was world number one for two and a half years before being deposed earlier this year by Shi Yuqi, and that's showing.

Kunlavut, still relatively fresh to the very top ranks of the world stage after his run to the world title in 2023, can't get a foothold at all against the Dane.

Roared on by many Danish fans who've travelled to Paris chanting "Denmark", Axelsen completes a straight-games win. 21-11, 21-11. Axelsen turns around and has a huge smile on his face. Then he crosses over to the other half of the court and gives Kunlavut a big hug.

Kunlavut was never really in that second game, although he mounted a late attempted rally. "Viktor, Viktor" rings around the La Chapelle Arena.

Axelsen becomes just the second repeat winner of this title after the great Lin Dan in 2008 and 2012.

Bronze went to People's Republic of China duoJiang Yiting and Lyu Jianlin, who overcame India's Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka 44-43.

Over inVaires-sur-Marne, the kayak cross event is heading to a resounding conclusion.
